Hatch analyzes NY transmission system
May 31, 2010
Hatch has been retained by the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to analyze the effects of the proposed addition of offshore wind power to the New York State transmission system. NYPA wants to add wind to its mix of energy sources, in keeping with the Power Authority’s historical commitment to clean energy sources.
Hatch will determine whether transmission system upgrades or reinforcements are required downstream of the point of interconnection (POI) for the proposed addition of a wind project. If upgrades or reinforcements might be needed, Hatch will estimate the costs for these transmission facilities.
In addition to the emission-free energy provided through wind power, NYPA’s Great Lakes Offshore Wind Project could be a way to spur economic development activity through the creation of many clean energy jobs needed for the development, construction, operation and maintenance of wind power facilities, and the manufacturing of wind components and equipment.
The Hatch offices in Amherst and Mississauga will manage the assignment.
