Hatch provides EPCM for co-generation facility
January 21, 2008
Hatch has been retained by US Steel to complete a feasibility study and provide EPCM services for a new co-generation facility on a greenfield site across from the company's Granite City Works in Granite City, Illinois. The facility will include a 78-MW turbine-generator and 350,000 lb/hr boiler.
The project scope includes detailed engineering, equipment specifications, 3D modelling, procurement services, project controls and scheduling, and construction management.
The co-generation facility will support the feedwater requirements of a new process facility, and will also allow US Steel to sell power to the electrical grid.
The project has been highlighted by US Steel management as a key capital project for 2008-2009.
Engineering is scheduled to be complete in November 2008, with operations scheduled to begin in June 2009.
