The Innovators: Hatch advises on transport of molten magnesium

Hatch was retained by a metals company to provide a complete technical, environmental and financial evaluation of the transport of molten-magnesium metal from a producer site to a die-casting plant. Molten magnesium metal has never been transported over significant distances on public roads.

If the option is found to be technically feasible and safe for both the environment and the public, there can be significant operating cost savings. Molten aluminum metal is already transported over long distances.

Hatch was selected due to its innovative application of magnesium technologies and process-equipment design.
