Sasol awards Hatch long-term contract to develop gasification technology

Sasol is the world’s foremost operator of gasification technology, generating 160,000 barrels per day of transport fuels and other chemicals at its Secunda, South Africa facility

Sasol Technology Ltd of South Africa has appointed Hatch as one of its two preferred engineering firms for the Sasol® Fixed Bed, Dry BottomTM (Sasol® FBDB™) Gasification technology.

The initial term of the agreement is 10 years.

Hatch’s expertise in materials handling, machine design and pressure-vessel design is being applied to help Sasol achieve its ambitious plans to improve and proliferate the Sasol® FBDB™ gasification technology.

Our mandate covers the upstream aspects of the technology, including coal delivery, proprietary gasification equipment and ash handling.

We are also assisting Sasol’s existing coal-based gas operations in continuous improvement and optimization. Hatch is responsible for the design of proprietary equipment and specialized systems for coal-gasification units for new gasification plants currently under consideration by Sasol, and is assisting the company with the further development of its gasification technology.
